LATINO AND LATINA CEO EXECUTIVE PROGRAM
Honoring Don Miguel Gonzalez, Founder and CEO Northgate Supermarkets
May 14, 2026
This year, we are privileged to recognize Mr. Miguel González, founder and CEO of Northgate Supermarkets, whose story embodies the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit that define our community. Born into a family that believed deeply in hard work and opportunity, Mr. González helped transform a small neighborhood market into one of the most respected Latino-owned supermarket chains in the nation. His leadership has been guided by a profound dedication to serving families, empowering employees, and uplifting the communities Northgate calls home. What began as a family dream has grown into a multigenerational legacy—one that continues to inspire aspiring leaders across the country.
As we gather to honor his achievements, we also celebrate the broader tapestry of Latino and Latina excellence—leaders who innovate, build, and pave the way for the next generation. We look forward to an evening of meaningful connection, shared purpose, and recognition of the extraordinary contributions that strengthen both sides of the US–Mexico partnership.
About Don Miguel:
Miguel González immigrated to the United States from Jalisco, Mexico in 1968 after his family’s shoe factory closed. In 1979, he and his father took a bold step by purchasing a small, long‑vacant grocery store in Anaheim called Northgate. With limited resources and no prior experience, they learned the business through hard work and determination, gradually expanding one successful store at a time. Today, Northgate González Markets is a leading Latino‑owned supermarket chain known for providing healthy food options, strong employee benefits, and deep community support. Through the González Reynoso Family Foundation, Miguel and his family continue to invest in education, youth programs, and charitable initiatives in both the U.S. and Mexico. His journey stands as a powerful example of courage, perseverance, and community‑centered leadership.
